Daniel D. Corbett III
Official portrait / Daniel D. Corbett III

Daniel David Corbett III has lived several lives in one: U.S. Navy SEAL, instructor, reserve service member, private contractor, author, entrepreneur, and speaker.

The American Mercenary Collection was created to connect that record to the signed books, photographs, flags, currency, cards, and artifacts associated with it. Each piece belongs to a larger chronology—one that began with military service and eventually became the story told in American Mercenary.

From the Navy to Naval Special Warfare

Daniel enlisted in the U.S. Navy after graduating from high school in 2002. His career would include service with SEAL Teams 5, 6, and 17, operational deployments, and a later assignment teaching the next generation of Naval Special Warfare personnel.

His early deployments exposed him to very different kinds of work and environments. In Iraq in 2005, his first deployment combined security responsibilities with a concentrated period of direct-action missions. A year later, he deployed to the Philippines, where his team worked with partner forces on the island of Jolo and supported training activity from Cebu.

The Field Record

2008–2010 · Afghanistan

Two deployments to Afghanistan marked a more demanding chapter. Daniel describes a mountainous environment, a determined enemy, and a team defined by precision and discipline. Those deployments became some of the most formative years of his operational career.

2010–2012 · Instructor

Daniel later moved to San Diego and became an instructor at SEAL Qualification Training. The role required a different kind of mastery: turning hard-earned skills into lessons another operator could understand and apply. He has written candidly about the learning curve, the work required to improve as an instructor, and the positive feedback that followed.

Beyond Active Duty

Leaving active duty did not end Daniel’s work overseas. The years that followed included maritime security in the Red Sea, service in the Navy Reserve, a deployment to South Korea, and assignments as an independent contractor. It was a less conventional career path, shaped by the same willingness to enter difficult environments and solve unfamiliar problems.

In 2017, one of those assignments led to the most consequential ordeal of his life: imprisonment in Belgrade, Serbia. Daniel spent approximately eighteen months in custody before returning to the United States. The experience became a defining part of the story he would later put into print.

Writing American Mercenary

After Serbia, Daniel completed one final overseas job and then began rebuilding at home. He worked in finance, founded a shooting school, and eventually turned his experiences into American Mercenary. The book follows the path from Naval Special Warfare into the uncertain world of private contracting, including the decisions and consequences that culminated in Serbia.

Today, Daniel continues his work as an author, entrepreneur, and speaker, drawing on lessons in leadership, management, mental strength, and decision-making under pressure.

The Collection

This collection turns chapters of that record into tangible pieces for collectors. Signed books connect directly to Daniel’s published account. Photographs, flags, collectible currency, trading cards, and other artifacts provide a physical link to the broader story.

The archive will continue to grow as first-party photography, signing documentation, and approved provenance records become available. Edition details and historical claims will be published only when they can be supported—because authenticity matters more than embellishment.
